My attempt at a Sestina

I walked down the hall
holding a book
and talking to my friend.
We talk of everything and nothing
What do words mean anyway?
Spending time is what matters.

And we do a lot of what matters.
At our house or in the hall,
cause I know, anyway,
as I've learned from reading this book
that life is too short to enjoy doing nothing.
And who better to do nothing with than a friend?

My Friend,
He matters.
But I don't want to do nothing
to further our friendship while in this hall.
So I show him my book
and he asks, "What's it called anyway?"

It's a Bible, I say, and anyway,
he loves to read, my friend.
So he takes the book
and says what does it matter?
The bell rings through the hall
and as he walks away I'm left to say nothing.

But I have to say something, not nothing,
I need my Bible back anyway,
so I run down the hall
to catch my friend.
A lot is what matters
I say. Your life will change when reading that book.

Really, he asks, my life can change just by reading a book?
Then he says nothing
dumbfounded as I nod, showing him he matters.
How could he not understand anyway?
He had seen a change in me, his friend.
We continued, though late for class, down the hall.

Anyway,
he began to understand, my friend,
as we finally left the hall.
